If you want to be successful, you need to learn to control your tilt. Tilt is a term, in poker, which refers to the unsettled emotional state of a person. When one begins to become frustrated, upset, or otherwise disenfranchised as a result of a bad streak, they tend to become frazzled enough that they begin to tilt and make poor choices. Put another way, desperation makes even wise men stupid in their actions.
Controlling your tilt is crucial in all walks of life - everything from romance to work is impacted by it and your reasoning for making any decision. As one drifts and sinks into desparation, they frequently begin to make worse and worse decisions, often becoming paralyzed by fear as things to continue to get worse and worse.
Instead of thinking things through and making wise decisions, a tilted individual will choose to do the easy things, as if some small effort will change their situation for the better. If you get to a point in life where things aren't going well, you need to get ahold of yourself and keep your emotions in check. Learning to meditate and become emotionally still for a while will help you to see and analyze other opportunities.
Put in a metaphoric way, if you're in a pit, if you want to get out you need to find or make a ladder, or stairs, an elevator, or an escalator. Digging at the sides of the pit without a plan'll get you nowhere fast: you'll just be hurt and tired, and all the less likely to get out.
Thus, if you find yourself getting desperate, impatient, or otherwise catch yourself slipping, take a breath. Spend five minutes just breathing through the upset and really consider your options. If that doesn't help you, seek out a second opinion from an unbiased third party. The last thing you want is to let emotion drive you to do something unpleasant, as that's not going to help you get what you want.
Regards.
