Hi folks! For those of you who follow me on Insta, I've been temporarily locked-out of my account. If you need to reach me directly, please use the Contact Me page here until service is restored.
Last week, I had a conversation with a person that inspired me to write. They'd written me to ask me about my take on the link between two spirits, and this led to a brief discussion on the subject of whether or not a spirit can be assessed according to the feeling or thoughts evokes by their presence, and thus carved a path for this conversation to be had today. If you who sparked this discussion is reading, thank you for the inspiration!
Spirits are like us & very much not like us. They have likes, dislikes, preferences and biases same as we do, but they do not function in quite the same way. Where we have physical bodies which define us, they do not, and thus their manifestations are rather more subtle by comparison.
Spirits are made up of substance which interfaces with us through our perceptive faculties. In essence, we perceive them according to how their essence meshes with our own ability to perceive them. If a spirit is made of energy that is akin to electricity, we will often sense them as being electrifying in presence - they bring with them spark-like energies which cascade down the spine like liquid lightning, and so their presence can be felt bodily. A spirit with a greater affinity for water might feel as though it has depth and the capacity to fill a space with itself, and it can sometimes feel like we're trying to breathe through a straw. Their presence seems to ripple, often evoking cool chills that we feel bodily, like water pouring down our heads, faces, backs, and chests. Fire spirits manifest heat and excitement, while Earth-oriented spirits are often dense, heavy, and solid, creating a sensation of being well-rooted to the Earth beneath us.
Each of these are manifestations of the Divine in a manner of speaking. Each of these sensations are an extrapolation of spirit substance interacting with us, and they direct our understanding of what we are connecting with.
These are not the only ways in which spirits communicate, however, and it is not all that they are. Not all spirits have a physicality to them, be it in their ability to create an experience of sensation or physical changes. Some are rather more etherial in manifestation, and are made up of what we would interpret as being thought or emotion, and so their whole existence can be communicated to us solely through how they cause us to think and feel.
Thought and emotional patterns that are not the norm for us are how beings of the less physically manifest variety communicate and interface with us, and so it can become increasingly important to pay careful attention to what we think, feel, and do in response to what we think & feel. More importantly, it is worthwhile to be cognizant that such spirits do exist so that we do not simply steamroll over them when we ask for their help.
Otherwise, we might be given the impression that this spirit does not exist or does not wish to help us, when in fact it is our willingness or lack to connect with them on their terms which can render us successful or unsuccessful in our ventures. My advice to you would be to take careful notes of the ways in which spirits appear to you. Consider what you feel, how you feel, and how those feelings change as a result of the spirit being present. Consider how your thoughts are altered when the mind stops racing, as there are times where the only indication of Presence you'll ever receive is a loud voice in your mind - one that you might cast aside as imagination if not for it being so incredibly different from your own self-talk.
Something to consider. ;)
Many blessings & thank you for reading,
Working with secrets is no small part of what I do as a sorcerer. It's no secret, and it's a pretty thoroughly misunderstood practice for most of the modern world. I'd like to talk about it a bit here to give each of you readers some insight into how to form your own spiritual relationships. Those of you who are practiced hands might simply be inspired by this post, and if that occurs I'll chalk this up as a win. ;)
When you're just stepping out into the practice of working with spirits, there's a rather large number of potential entities to choose from. From one grimoire to another, there are literally hundreds of spirits one could pick from; the list seems more or less endless. But you've got your needs and the things you want, so for the most part, people enter and exit this phase pretty readily.
When a person has exited that phase, then comes the demands phase wherein a person might approach that spirit for a boon. Sometimes it's a small thing, sometimes it's an enormous thing (very often the latter), and sometimes the spirit in question will decide to grant a person's request. When that happens easily, we're off to the races and it becomes almost second nature to form a relationship with the spirit in question because it feels relatively easy & fluid.
But what about when it's not so easy and fluid? What about the times in which you get no response and no attention? That's when and where people throw their arms up in disgust and discard magic to the rubbish bin. It's in times like these where a more careful, calm, and generous approach is needed.
It's important to think of spirits as living beings, as that's exactly what they are. They're not cold, disconnected, unliving machines for the most part, and they've got feelings, desires, likes & dislikes same as any one of us.
If you don't get that amazing response right off the bat, that's ok. You can take that as an opportunity to begin to build a relationship with the spirit. I generally suggest small offerings of incense or prayers being given in a schedule for a period of time (say, six months) as a means of opening the gates so that a closer connection might be formed.
These offerings can be given daily, every other day, weekly, or biweekly, and they should be given with regularity. By doing this, you're essentially telling the spirit that you're a kind, decent human being who would very much to get to know them and get their help. Over time, this can lead to some extraordinarily beneficial relationship, and they're often much, much stronger than any kind of one-off engagement.
As you do this, success us usually met with a kind of suffusion of that entity's energy into your life. Common motifs related to the spirit themselves tend to come up with great regularity without you seeking them out, and you may notice that weird social and professional situations begin to go your way when they really don't feel like they shouldn't.
This occurring is a sign of attention. They may not be agreeing to what you've asked of them initially, but they're still showing some manner of interest and that's a place to start. Continue this process in an ongoing fashion, and you'll find that this relationship will typically deepen of it's own accord. Most tend to develop the ability to hear or otherwise understand the spirit with whom they've been in close communication over the months and years they work with their newfound spirit friends, and when this occurs, one life can enrich another.
Humans don't share in the experiences of spirits, nor do we share in their experiences. We can share the sensations of the experiences themselves, on both sides of the divide, as a means of educating and elevating these entities as we too are educated and elevated. It's a beautiful system when it works, and it can lead to a fairly stellar understanding of magical ritual processes if one makes the right friends on the other side.
Something to think on. ;) - Enjoy your Tuesday.
Hello friends & followers! Welcome to 2020! I am now freshly returned from a two week vacation away, and feeling substantially refreshed. The time away was as much about R&R as it was about learning more, gaining perspective, and ruminating on the lessons of 2019....of which there were many!
I hope each and every one of you has had a likewise positive experience through the recent holiday season. This is something to work to uphold, and for those of you who felt the Holidays lacking....well, now is a time to set new patterns in motion.
As we greet the new and bid farewell to the old we stand upon a crossroads; the kind created when two forces intersect. What choices we make now will create momentum and force we will become aware of in the future - what Dominos would you like to set in motion? If I may, I have a few suggestions that will lead to the peace, prosperity, and productivity of your day to day life.
As with all things, we begin with what is most close to us. Those relationships we value have supported us through the year prior, and they will continue to do so in the year ahead should we tend them appropriately. Work to ease the challenges of your friends and family and actively show your appreciation of their good works. Endeavor to smooth out any troublesome wrinkles within friendships tested by the days past, and set into motion new healthy cycles in the process. If there are toxic holdovers that haunt you, make your peace with them and send them packing.
Then, attend your own projects. Are you struggling at work? Work to improve your odds of promotion by handling the political difficulties in the office space. Attract attention to yourself, downplay any perceived flaws and work to impress your colleagues and superiors, using both hard work & magic intelligently.
Use what success you create here to then structure and support what you do at home, using those gains to feed the relationships I discussed initially. Help your friends who struggle and give back to your community. Make offerings to the both the spirits of those who are no more and those at or around your door. Then, use the added support to grow your career and responsibilities alike. These are two wheels, ever in motion, and both must be tended equally lest you begin to drift.
So grease the wheels and start the year off *rightly*! Endeavor to make successful your endeavors, and you will more thoroughly enjoy the year ahead. Here's to achieving tangible goals through magical means!
I wanted to thank each & every one of you for your support during 2019. Its been a great, productive year all around, and there's been a substantial amount of growth to be had. I am grateful for the support and would like to wish you each an incredible Holiday Season.
Here's to many laughs, wonderful meals shared with those you love and appreciate, and joy enough & to spare. May this time be both restive and festive!
Blessings to all, and to all a good night. ;)
Greetings folks and I hope each and every one of you is doing well during this Holiday Season of 2019. I certainly am, and I have been keeping quite occupied with a number of different projects. This particular topic shone through the clouds as I was ruminating and working on an evocation, so it seems appropriate to discuss this today.
The topic at hand is GPS. Most of us use this in our cars day to day or when traveling, but how many of us actually utilize this capacity to provide direction within ourselves on a daily basis? I do. Do you?
Our feelings, fears, and odd insights are each a part of a carefully developed system tied directly to our brainstem. It is this deeply-rooted part of you that calls the shots, directing you to face or flee on an instinctual level, and this is a kind of internal roadmap. It is the faculty responsible for our own internal GPS, and it is something we can utilize responsibly to ease our lives.
We've all heard the phrase "I feel it in my gut" or "I have a funny feeling about this" or "I just *know* it". We all have that capacity within, and some of us have more finely tuned systems than others. This is a byproduct of genetics, inheritance, and no small amount of social experience. It is a conditioned response to no small degree, and if you find that your gut feeling is correct more often than not, listen for that sense. Really try to hear or feel it, and when it comes up, do. not. ignore. it. Period. Hell, add a few more emphasis....!
That sense is what can guide you rightly if you let it. If its accurate, trust it - this can save your life, your career, your romance, and your social relationships. This allows us to more accurately gauge the world than we would through internal bias alone.
There is a caveat, however. In the case of those of you who have a seriously screwed up internal sense of direction, its not hopeless. Instead, you will need to reprogram your senses by creating greater awareness. Take the focus off of yourself and your accessories and instead turn this focus elsewhere. Notice what others read, wear, say, and do. Pay attention to their body language and how it changes throughout conversations.
Try to notice things in your periphery more often, and go out of your way to compliment others. This will seem very strange, but there's a purpose for it, By forcing external awareness, you force the cultivation of additional synaptic pathways which in turn feed your internal GPS. You'll experience more of the world and learn how to discern the subtleties in any given situation.
Use this faculty more fully, more responsibly, and more actively and I am certain you will experience life differently.
Blessings to each of you & yours,
One of the great ironies in life is that while others can take our identity away from us, it's up to us to create our identity. This particular truth can either be seen as an intellectual curiosity or a manifest truth with weight and measure. Both, even, and it becomes all the more pertinent to consider after experiencing trauma or hardship.
After it's all said and done, it's up to us to decide who it is we want to be. Are we the sort to burn it all down and walk away, or are we looking to build something incredible? What walls do we erect and how do we go about doing so? Each of these considerations become a part of the identity we create for ourselves; each becomes a puzzle piece in the making of who we intend to be.
They're a part of both who we are, who we're becoming, and they contribute a greater understanding of ourselves along the way.
There's a funny kind of difficulty to be found in this process too, as there's not a one-size-fits-all codification or guide. Some will find and cling to religion, others will find some manner of organization or group to define themselves, but ultimately these are social agreements we keep. They're a part of who we become, but not who we are or who we are becoming in totality, so its on us to discover what is and is not right for us.
That's a process of trial & error, and it can lead one into some dark places along the way. When it does, consider how you want to become who you intend to be. Contemplate what each decision adds to this new version of you and keep an awareness of what you're looking to be.
It's difficult work, but its rewarding work! While it might seem to be a really lonely road, it doesn't have to be. There are avenues of aid available to you if you should require them, and the world is full of seekers just trying to ascertain where they fit. When the world is populated with folks trying to meaningfully engage with this process, there's no shame in asking for help when piecing Humpty Dumpty together again. ;)
Just be sure to be true to yourself and what you want to be as you do this. Then, you'll have no regrets when you find yourself again.
I've been around a fair bit as I've done magic for other people. That wasn't the start of my travels, nor will it be the end, but my time spent working with folks from other countries & far away ideals has taught me quite a lot.
One of the most pertinent lessons I've learned is that we are tied to the land. We are tied to the land in ways that we don't consider, and it is that tether to what is under our feet that we tend to neglect most.
Every crop we plant, every weed we pull, every bit of landscaping we do has an impact. By extension, every bit of additional TLC we give the land, every offering, and every spiritual engagement we have with the beings upon the space we occupy provides a similar impact. We exist within an ecosystem, and taking good care of that eco-system provides a foundation for each and every thing we do.
Magic is local to an extreme degree, and so to are our efforts. When you consider how your magic works, consider the impact you're having on the land below your feet. If your spells are not working, if you're struggling with health issues, if you're failing to thrive, or struggling to get your business off the ground, I would strongly suggest considering your impact on the earth around you. Work to heal the land and you will work to remedy the troubles you have, as you have to live with that energy each and every day… You have to live alongside every spirit that exists there.
Taking good care of that land and the entities upon it has a direct impact on your life. The more care and consideration you put in to those engagements, the more you will get out of it. Start local, and focus on the things with in your neighborhood that you have a direct ability to impact. If you do so, blessings and boons will come.
If everything isn't working, start with the land. That's where we grow our crops, that's where we grow us & what we want to be.
Dreams have become something of a focus of late, and so it is appropriate that we discuss this fascinating topic within the context of Serpent Sorcery.
Its long been understood that dreams point to something else occurring behind the scenes. They're a portal to a different worldview and an internal change of pace, and in this way they are inherently magical. However, that is not where the profundity ends, as it is well within the nature of spirits to communicate with us; at times, those communications happen through dreams.
Just recently, a client shared with me that a dream occurring after she and I worked together was essentially life-changing. What she saw was, to paraphrase her own words, worth more than thousands of hours of therapy, and having experienced the same I can attest to the impactful nature of dreams guided by Spirit.
The same can be said for Serpent Dreams, as entities of this kind are often not as overt as others in their manifestations. They're not often the sort to manifest loudly and proudly, with massive visions attached, but rather they slither into view and we become a ride-along in this oneiric state. These beings take us through experiences and shifts in understanding that then impact our worldview in the waking state, which in turn can be intensely magical.
When this occurs, the revelations you take with you become the foundation for what else is to occur, and this is both an act of changing who you are as well as the world connected to you. This current spills out and forth into the waking state, and then synchronistic ripples tug at us to remind us of the veracity of what we've seen.
With that in mind, I'd like to provide you with an exercise to be performed when hading to bed. For some, this generates incredibly vivid dreams, and for others it generates restful sleep and rejuvenation. The lucky ones get helpings of both.
To accomplish this, as you go about your evening routine & prepare for bed, attempt to unwind and shake loose the stresses of the day. Minimize and dismiss any alternate narratives going on in you head to turn your attentions away from any distractions of the day. Return yourself to this neutral state and then imagine yourself being enwrapped in a glossy white encasement. As this egg-like cocoon enwraps you, understand that you are within it and invite your serpent spirits to protect and guide you. Sense them wrapping about this encasement, protecting and sealing you within. Consider that you are with them & they are with you as you drift off to sleep.
If you've made this connection appropriately, your dreams will feel different and seem different on some intrinsic level. For most, this feels like someone has come along for the ride, and it is not uncommon for the imagery to change rather substantially. This is part of how these beings help us to see and understand the world more clearly, as these dreams take us through both our unconscious world and the collective unconscious.
You may find yourself exploring the intentions of a lover or seeing the struggles of a friend. You might find yourself confronting your own experiences through a different lens or sense that you're being taken on a journey. When this occurs, you may or may not become lucid within this dream state, but do take mental notes of what all you see. A journal will be your best friend here, as its not at all uncommon for this to cause a waking state of clairvoyance, clairaudience, or clairsentience, so having something to come back to and reflect upon can be immensely helpful.
In time, you'll find that there's an element of oneiric sorcery which occurs too, as these state changes that are caused within you by these experiences change the way your magic works and unfolds.
I recommend doing this only when you don't have something very important to get to in the morning. Days where you plan to sleep in are best, as this can be a bewildering experience at first - its not the kind of thing you want to do before a board meeting with Fortune 500 execs!
Make a habit of this and take note of the rewards you receive as a result of these practices. When you feel like you've had a particularly intense & beneficial experience, provide offerings to these spirits. They'll guide you through this slowly, but effectively.
We've come 'round to that time of year in which the line that separates this world from the next becomes a bit fuzzy. Spirits peek on through the Veil and make themselves more known to us, and it is in this time of spiritual connectedness that we can most closely work with those who are the very reason we're here: our Ancestors.
For those of you unfamiliar with ancestral work, those that came before us have as much a vested interest in our success as we do. Their good works are the reason our respective familial lines still exist, and were our lines to terminate, they'd be without anyone to remember them. Their existence would effectively end and their stories would go untold, letting them slip loose of the World's memory.
It is in this time that telling their stories and drinking deeply of the familial well is most important. Honor them through your remembrance and give thanks for every time in which you feel like something very much should have not gone your way but did. If your life or livelihood has ever been threatened and yet miraculously saved, thank them for it, as even if they were not directly responsible, there's a good chance they've had a hand in it.
This doesn't need to be a particularly fancy affair, so if you're the broke college student magician or frugal kitchen witch, you can brew a cuppa and consider those who came before you as you sip at it. Share that warmth with those who are responsible for the warmth that pumps its way through your veins. You may find that this is a deeply emotional expereince, and that is to be expected. Should your family line pass through you to create an heir to the bloodline, you will do the same down the line when your family regards you in the same way.
It doesn't take much effort, but its worth it in the end.
For those of us who are a bit more adventurous and comfortable with our ancestors, I recommend sharing food and drink. Create a feast and share part of it with them. Share some of your kids' Halloween candy with them and tell stories about how your family took you out Trick Or Treating when you were young or share stories about what you and they did during this time of year. Celebrate their lives and what they've added to yours, and perform ritual offerings alongside this to properly thank them.
It doesn't need to be extravagant, but it does need to be sincere and heartfelt. Keep them in mind this time of year and don't be surprised if beneficial changes are had. ;)
About the Blog
This blog serves as an extension of my day to day magical works. A journal, if you will.
