Angels, as celestial beings with wings and countenances of light, are nothing altogether new in our collective unconscious. We've been venerating such entities for a very long time, even if most have no real awareness of this fact. Only the term "Angel", like its counterbalance "Demon", is all that new. If you Google the word, you get two definitions: 1) "a spiritual being believed to act as an attendant, agent, or messenger of God, conventionally represented in human form with wings and a long robe." and 2)" a person of exemplary conduct or virtue." Both imply lofty things, as if to suggest all things from the sky are beautiful creatures of worth and merit.
That's not actually the case, as if you want to get historical, Pazuzu had wings too, and he was a "plague God" who basically got demoted to being a demon in modern discussions. More on that later, as while its related to the subject at hand, its not the focus.
Angelic spirits, if worked with in the Abrahamic worldview, are fairly limited in their power and thought to be messengers or workers who do what God tells them to do. This informs your interactions with them, to a point, as the idea that many espouse is to approach them either through prayer or an authoritarian stance and ask or tell them to do something for you.
I suggest scrapping that idea altogether, losing the rose-coloured glasses, and instead viewing them as winged entities who cohabit the World with us. They're colleagues, and they've got likes, dislikes, skills, and the ability to make mistakes.
As with demonic spirits, angels have their own preferences when it comes to humans. Your character is important, as is your attitude. Some care more for piety than others, and so seeking out those whose views are compatible with your goals is key. As with their cthonic brethren, some are incredibly good with numbers or theology, whereas others couldn't give a damn about those things and instead care more for hydroponics, gardening, writing, and/or scholarly pursuits.
If you're looking to better your life, before you ask one to actually do anything, I recommend evoking or invoking them and having a chat. Let them fill you in on their thoughts and feelings, and let them teach you what they know. Use that knowledge to decide whether or not working with them to do something would be a valuable experience for the both of you. Placate them with sacred incense and prayers, and you'll be surprised what they have to offer you and the same can be said in return.
Happy conjuring,
