Evoking Arzel

Greetings folks, I hope this lovely Monday is treating you well. I've been on quite the evoking kick of late, and as part of that I've been working with a spirit called Arzel.

Arzel is the introductory spirit in the book New Avatar Power by Geoff Gray Cobb, but he's also a standalone spirit with an interesting history. From what I've been able to piece together, he's an angel of the East who is considered to be benevolent and helpful. My own experiences have shown him to be a magical powerhouse worth respecting and interacting with, so I provide this sigil with this in mind.

Experience has suggested that he's a useful introductory spirit, so you can choose to work with him even if you've not got a copy of NAP. He's damned interesting to work with as a standalone, and he can be phenomenally powerful.

Doing so has created a wonderful amount of synchronicity, for starters, and he's easily accessible. I'd highly recommend starting with him if you're new to magic, as Arzel's been wonderful.

Michael,

I'd recommend three candles - silver or blue, anointed in oil that's been blessed and primed for evocation. Use them to form a triangle in which a brazier has been placed, and use a lit charcoal + church incense to create the necessary fumigation.

You should follow this with a heartfelt prayer of invocation to Arzel, detailing your intentions & desire. Properly communicated and performed, Arzel will be with you, so it'll be up to you to then work with him.

How does Arzel appear and how can inexperience magician observe the spirit appearance?

Hey there Peter,

The inexperienced magician would likely best identify Arzel by their awareness of what befalls the space during their conjuration. Arzel is a massive being, but not a threatening one in any way, and when he manifests strongly there's this feeling of being before the temple mount.

Its not a sense of worshipful awe, so much as a feeling that you've been joined by someone of merit and wisdom.It is not uncommon for this sense to be joined with a sense of calm & words or gestures appearing within the smoke.

If you are uncertain about whether or not Arzel is the one who has appeared, mentally delve into the sigil provided. If the feelings overlap and "mesh", you have the correct spirit.

Peter,

I've not experienced a greater or lesser manifestation of Arzel that's been tied to specific hours. I have, however, noticed a different manifestation of his energy during the dark of the moon.

What textual sources exist that mention Arzel? Do you know what the earliest is?

Greetings Parasamgate, I had to dig into my notes for that one! Good question!
Best I can tell, the Key of Solomon is the first historical mention of Arzel, and in some variations, I've seen him noted as "Archarzel". Given the history associated with angelic names & barbaric names, however, its rather likely that the name existed elsewhere and referenced by the author, however.

In the "72 Angels of Magick" they say that to contact Arzel, you don't need to do anything but relax and say his names a couple things from the bible, basically, no ritual is required. I have not gotten their method to work. I haven't tried your sigil yet. Do you use a regular evocation ritual? The book says not to continue with the rest of the operations till you make contact. Could I be making contact without being aware? What do you recommend?

Hey there GG, that's the same methodology suggested inside of Geoff Gray Cobb's New Avatar Power, and presumably that's what inspired Damon Brand in his book. I can confirm that you don't need ritual to connect with him, but this is stronger and will advance one's personal practice, both with Arzel and in general.

Mental magic is mental magic - it has less behind it than actually doing the spellwork, and with that in mind, it is *possible* to connect with a spirit and be unaware of it. If that occurs, however, that connection will only be marginally useful.

I'd keep at it until you're sure he's there. You may find that invocation or evocation helps you to bypass this hurdle...I generally do this when I feel the desire to connect in a more official capacity. The structure is beneficial to me, and done right, that brings Arzel's manifestation closer, intensifying it and creating a greater potency in your following magical acts.

You're right on. I did keep at it everyday and finally accomplished contact. I realized that contact had been made but I was unable to sense the connection due to some serious mental and spiritual blocks, which I was finally able to address. Thanks so much!

Hey Mark, he's an initiator and a means of expanding your mind and mental processes. By working with him, you're opening the door to the spirit world & redefining your awareness, which in turn allows you greater access.

He's very much an intermediary in that respect, so it would be worthwhile to explore head-on. ;)

Hello, I too have read Damon Brands book 72 Angels of Magic, and just went through the rituals not knowing if I made contact or not. I found your site and read your Q &A. You are very nice and answer everyone honestly and help all to the best of your ability. I whole heartedly thank you for this and I wish all good things for you in your life. Archangel Arzel is one of the most beautiful and loving Angels I have ever met. He has been incredibly patient with me and been by my side when ever I have needed him. His wisdom is endless and yes he is most powerful. He has my unending gratitude and love forever. I also give my deepest gratitude and love to Archangel Raziel, Uriel Tzadkiel, Damebel and Hakemiah. Their are many more Angels I have such deep love and gratitude for but I would be going on for a long time so I'll stop here. My final word is Archangel Arzel is one of the best to work with, I most definitely recommend him!
